what to expect at your pet’s ophthalmology appointment at Mountain Star
Welcome to Mountain Star Veterinary Specialists
Colorado’s premier, privately-owned veterinary ophthalmology and dermatology center
Thank you for choosing Mountain Star Veterinary Specialists for your pet’s care. We appreciate the trust you’ve placed in us. To ensure a smooth experience, please review the following information before your appointment:
Initial Examination Process
A board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist and a veterinary technician will be in the exam room with you and your pet. After a thorough interview to determine your concerns and goals, the doctor will examine all parts of the eye with specialized equipment. We minimize patient anxiety by practicing low-stress handling and by having you be present to comfort your pet.
When indicated, the doctor will perform a tear production test, a fluorescein staining, and an intraocular pressure measurement (glaucoma test). Some of these tests are annoying to your pet, but not painful. We will usually take high quality photos of your pet’s eyes, which is very helpful when the doctor is explaining your pet’s condition. These photos will become part of a comprehensive medical record that will be shared with you and every veterinarian who is involved with your pet’s healthcare.
The appointment is not over until you completely understand your pet’s eye condition and the plan to restore them to health.
